At Skin and Wellness Centre, we believe an important part of wellness is tending to the needs of both the mind and body. Yoga is a traditional art renowned to provide spiritual and mental benefits. The practice of yoga harmonizes the mind and body providing mental clarity and physical health. At the Skin and Wellness Centre we are dedicated to the education and practice of all traditional yoga lineages. You can expect to see classes ranging from vigorous asana-based practices like Ashtanga Yoga to more ethereal meditative practices like Yoga Nidra and Bhakti Yoga. We strive to make our yoga offerings universally accessible. View our yoga class descriptions below for more information about our specific class offerings.
Hatha
Hatha yoga classes use breathing techniques, meditation, and basic yoga poses to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and healing on a physical level while developing concentration, managing stress, and creating a positive outlook. All levels welcome.
Vinyasa
In a vinyasa flow, we link breath with movement while moving through each asana as you strengthen, stretch and move towards greater body awareness and relaxation. This flow will get the heart rate going and help with cardiovascular training while focusing on movement with breath for deep relaxation. Some awareness of yoga postures will be helpful, but all levels are welcome.
Guided Meditation
Guided meditation is the practice of quieting the mind. Throughout our day, many thoughts and emotions arise that go unacknowledged and unprocessed which often leads to stress. Mediation is a tool that can assist us in focusing and processing our thoughts to achieve relaxation and stress relief. Guided meditation uses various meditation tools that are instructed by a teacher to achieve this effect.
Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra also known to some as “yogic sleep” is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. Practitioners are lead through various guided meditations that allow the body and mind to relax and allow the practitioner to drop into a state of conscious sleep. Yoga Nidra is a deep state of relaxation and there is evidence to prove this is a great method to relieve stress and anxiety.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga is an excellent pathway to quiet the mind and calm the body. With the use of props such as blocks, bolsters, and blankets, restorative postures support the body, release tension and encourage surrender into a deeper sense of relaxation and stillness. Restorative yoga classes are perfect for all levels of experience.
Full Moon & New Moon Meditation Circles
This circle is a safe and sacred space for people to come together, use their voices, be heard and seen. During this empowering community gathering, we will meditate, set intentions, and talk about how we can use the wisdom of the season to propel us to the life we envision for ourselves. Wear comfortable clothing and please bring a journal and something to write with.
